I was just talking with someone about my incessant need for reminder notes. Sticky notes, notebooks, the dry erase board on the refrigerator, scribblings in the church directory – sometimes I have notes on top of notes!
I try to stay away from tying strings around my fingers. I imagine I’d be like Uncle Billy in, It’s a Wonderful Life – he has multiple strings attached to his fingers, but he still doesn’t remember to attend George Bailey’s wedding. Interesting that George knows which string was the wedding reminder! People keep telling me it will only get worse as I get older. Not really what I want to hear.
I am glad for November. A month where I am reminded to be thankful. It is so easy to forget to be thankful. Even when life is difficult, we can still be grateful for many, many things.
I am grateful for:
*Becoming a United Methodist where I found out that God
is a God of grace and immense love instead of a wrathful
God waiting for me to mess up.
*Walks with my husband in the fall woods where a variety
of mushrooms spark my curious side.
*For people who support me in the work I do, day in and
day out, with laughter and insight and patience.
*Silence. Empty space. Calm. To just be.
*Memories that remind me that there are so many people
who love me and are cheering me on – even those who no
longer walk this earth.
*Opportunities to learn more about God, ministry, and life.
*Working in the dirt, preparing the soil for the garden that is yet to be…
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to your name, O Most High,
2 to declare your steadfast love in the morning
and your faithfulness by night… Psalm 92:1-2 NRSVUE
What are you thankful for?
